David Mitchell has dedicated over 29 years of his career to public service. He is a strong community contributor who has served as the Chair of Toronto Community Housing Corporation, was a Founder and Past President of the Association of Black Law Enforcers (A.B.L.E.). The members of ABLE are representatives of justice professionals from Federal, Provincial, and Municipal law enforcement agencies. In his role as President, David provided leadership in areas of advocacy, community engagement, targeted minority recruitment, government consultation and fundraising. Under his strong leadership, major community linkages/partnerships were created as examples creating policy positions on racial profiling presented to government panels and organizing two international conferences of Black law enforcers hosted in 2000 & 2005.
His dedication to public service has been recognized by numerous awards such as the African Canadian Achievement Award, Ontario Women in Law Enforcement President’s Award, Jamaica Excellence Award, Ovation Partnership Award, Minister’s Award for Community Service, to name a few.
Mr. Mitchell is a recent recipient of the prestigious Harry Jerome Award, recognizing his distinguished 10 years of leadership in the Black Community.
