Yvonne Armstrong is a full time Professor at The School of Justice & Emergency Services (JES) in Durham College. Yvonne’s past experience as a Toronto police officer gives her an unparalleled, real-world perspective as a JES professor and professional training consulting outside the College. Yvonne has served in leadership positions as Coordinator and Faculty member of the Police Foundations program Collège Boréal, a Francophone Community College in Toronto; as well as a Tactical Officer and Trainer at Ontario Power Generation in Pickering protecting the Nuclear Plant. She is skilled in special weapons, immediate rapid deployment (IRD), explosive breaching, she also has extensive radiological knowledge.
Yvonne holds a Master degree of Learning and Technology from Royal Roads University and when not teaching or training, Yvonne can be found on the track. She is an avid fitness advocate and trainer. TNT welcomes Yvonne as a subject matter expert in mental health training and teaching approaches for front line officers and civilians working in the justice sector. The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) is committed to improving the mental health system and changing the attitudes and behaviours of Canadians and organizations dealing with mental health issues. The Certificate MHFA Basic Course taught by Yvonne speaks to and is the building block for the Certificate MHFA Police. Yvonne will teach to the tailored needs of justice practitioners.
