The Canadian labour force increased dramatically between December 2018 to December 2019, reaching its all-time high. Due to the immense growth of the workforce, employers often find it difficult to base their recruitment and employment decisions solely on resume presentation and candidate interviews. A solution for employers would be to conduct pre-employment tests in an effort to provide their internal hiring process with additional support. These pre-employment tests provide an employer, or recruitment expert the opportunity to gain deeper insights regarding a candidate’s potential. Thus, it will allow organizations to make informed hiring decisions in the midst of competing priorities and demanding schedules. Additionally, an employment pre-screening process can reveal critical information about a candidate that may not have been stipulated in the resume. For example, the candidate’s ability to make decisions within a timely manner, scenario-based situations, ideologies on social loafing and lateness at work are all relevant details associated with the performance of an employee. The examples listed above can be captured through cognitive assessments and personality based assessments, in order for employers to reach an accurate decision to pursue the candidate at the pre-screening stage of their hiring practices.
The pre-screening process allows employers to gain preliminary insight regarding the applicants, and how they are likely to perform the job specifications. Attracting better qualified applicants increases the chances of success for any organization.
The pre-screening process will assist organizations in determining whether their organizational values, mission statement and overall vision are in alignment with potential applicants.
Pre-screening tests provide organizations and their respective recruitment communities an opportunity to receive results prior to meeting, or speaking with potential applicants. These results are meant to provide recruiters with supplemental information and knowledge in areas that are otherwise difficult to assess through standard interviews.
Pre-screening at the onset promotes uniformity, fairness and procedural standardization. All applicants at the onset will be provided an equal opportunity to conduct the pre-screening tests, without any concern of disqualification in the early stages
The process of pre-screening applicants can prevent costs associated with hiring efforts, such as; on-site written tests, tiered interviews and multiple screening tests throughout the hiring process provided at different times.
Pre-screening applicants will assist recruitment communities in commencing their hiring practices quickly and more efficiently, depending on the timeframe in which the organization is seeking new hires. Overall, the recruitment communities will be able to relinquish this administrative duty comfortably, in knowing the pre-screening process will be completed prior to their internal hiring practices.
